"Fixing" the Shader Compile Time Problem

If Steam supports pre-load of content before release, instead of just pre-loading content, also pre-compile the shaders on the local machine in the background. This way first run pulls cached shaders.

  1. Is shader compiling really something that takes so much time that it's worth optimizing to such an extent?

  2. In many modern games on PC - yes, shader compilation can take a significant chunk of time.

  3. Could easily bump shader compiling into a post‐install hook, and ‘hide’ it inside the download/install process.
